In high school, I absolutely hated English courses. I took honors through sophomore year, and then AP my junior year. I passed the AP exam and did not realize if I did not take and pass the AP English 4 exam, I would not get to exempt any college courses, so I took advanced senior year. I did not get along very well with my English teachers in high school. The major qualm I had with the education system was that they absolutely destroyed any interest children would have in reading by forcing selections they have no interest in upon them in large quantities. Most of the assignments that were given would be busy work with little value to them. I would have much rather had a few, meaningful assignments, than the unending joke work that was assigned.
I have always been told that I could argue my way out of anything. If I believe in something I’ll argue it to death, and I rarely have been outdone. My mother gave up arguing with me years ago as whenever shed bring up any sort of point that would go against what I was for, I would contradict it and bring up something she could not counter effectively. An argumentative personality is something that is often looked down upon, but I feel like it makes me a more complete person.
As a general rule, I have an extremely disorganized writing process. I will do my research and everything ahead of time, and possibly even group the research together, but that is the extent of my organization. When I sit down to start writing, I immediately start on the final product, forgoing any prior draft unless it is required. I have always felt that a rough draft was never that beneficial to me, as all of the editing I would normally do following a rough draft, I do in writing the final and both drafts always ended up about the same.
Technology obviously plays a major role in my everyday life. Almost everything that I do is in some way, shape, or form is technologically related. My education, for example would be very different without a computer. The whole way in which I receive, complete, and submit the majority of my assignments would be altered. I also use the internet for entertainment purposes such as facebook, sports news, games, etc. The other major piece of technology I frequently use is my phone. I’m always texting to keep in touch with people I don’t get to see very often, and to make plans with friends.
As a general summary of myself, I would have to say that I am a fun loving guy with a huge heart. I love to have a good time and spend time with those that I care about. I put the people close to me ahead of myself and will do anything to see them happy. I have a big heart, and while many people view that as a strength, it also becomes my biggest weakness.

  1. How much could you have exempted by doing AP English? Just wondering. I completely sympathize with your high school English experience. I didn't mind doing assigned readings, but I DID mind being forced to interpret things the same way the teacher did. College is much better in that respect.

  2. I would have exempted this class, I'm not sure if it would have been anything beyond that.
